Date: February 2019 | Location: Coromandel Peninsula, NZ
What I saw:
Pāua: my favourite!
Black sand: I love the contrast this adds to the beach scene. We also visited beaches like Hahei with classic golden sand.
The sunrise: It was a perfect one with orange, yellow, pink and blue. The sea reflected its beauty. The photo is now hidden somewhere in my ‘Road trip’ highlight.
What I learnt:
How to switch off : Changing to rest mode isn’t easy. Mentally, I did this by not thinking ahead. I didn’t bring my planner. This prevented myself from reverting back to organising mode. Physically, switching off looked like limiting social media scrolling. When we’re too busy seeing what everyone else is up to, we often miss out on our own adventures. Of course, I love creating Instagram stories when I’m somewhere new so some social media was still involved.
Be present: Enjoy where you are and the people you are with. Focus on what’s right in front of you.
Holidays should not be the only time where we switch off and take things slow.
Create rhythms of rest in your workday, in your week. I’ll leave you to contemplate the poetic words of Tess Guinery:
“In a beautiful world that has come to hooray the hustle, I find my sweet-loving soul rebelliously dancing to the contrary- for this season, busy has no place – busy cannot lasso my time. It is down by the river, sunbathing on silky rocks.”
